Pine Needles 2019

US Senior Women’s Open 2019

My trip to the US Senior Women’s Open was fantastic!  I was so pleased to get the opportunity to compete in a major tournament again!  Getting the qualifying round in was a bit tricky because there was so much time between going over and back to get my spot in the field and the actual tournament.  I finished 3rd at Briarwood GC in Sun City, AZ so I was happy about that!  I don’t think I did my body any favours by going over and back, then over and back again within 3 weeks time…Maybe I can make that process more efficient going forward and help myself out.

This was the ninth US Open I’ve played in throughout my career.  The event itself is very special and has always been my favourite to play in; this was no exception.  It felt like old home coming week as I was able to see many of my friends I used to compete against and it was a familiar feeling of yesteryear.  The USGA put on a spectacular week and treated us like royalty.

Pine Needles is an incredible test of golf.  A Donald Ross design from 1927, it has stood the test of time.  The golf course proved victor as the winning score by Helen Alfredsson was 1 over par after 4 rounds!  The Ross design features convex greens with slight elevations and strategic undulations that make the ball roll off into collection areas if shots are not struck with precision.  Add the element of fast greens and you have a recipe for a very interesting walk!

The only way I can think to describe my golf is that it was shocking in a nutshell, for any number of reasons that make no matter.  There is no place to hide!  The learning curve was huge and I’m already preparing to right the ship for next year!  Watch this space!

Thank you to everyone for your support and encouragement. I appreciate your words and good vibes before, throughout and following my play.
